Dark Flight Deck :

The Fokker 50 design team designed the F50 flight deck using the "Dark Flight Deck" philosophy. This means, under normal operations, no warning or indicator lights should be on. Thus, no lights on the overhead panel or main panel will indicate that everything is working ok and the systems are configured correctly. This also makes it easy for the pilots to spot failure situations.

Autopilot Climb & Descent :

For the most efficient climb and descent, use the IAS hold mode

Climb:

The optimal climb speed for the Fokker 50 is 160kts.
- Select IAS hold mode on the Flight Mode Panel (FMP)
- Set IAS hold speed to 160kts with the wheel on the Autopilot Control Panel on the pedestal
- Engage the master Autopilot button

Descent:

The maximum descent speed for the Fokker 50 is 215kts.
- Select IAS hold mode on the Flight Mode Panel (FMP)
- Set IAS hold speed to 215kts with the wheel on the Autopilot Control Panel on the pedestal
- Pull the throttles all the way back
- Engage the master Autopilot button

Engine Power Control :

For the most efficient operation of the engines you should use the Engine Rating Panel (ERP) to set the appropriate rating mode for the current flight situation.

- Set the throttles in the full forward position
- Select the appropriate engine rating mode
- The Electronic Engine Control (EEC) system will automatically set engine power output for you

The EEC system will calculate the optimum power output based on rating mode, altitude, temperature and airspeed. The EEC system will also automatically set the propeller pitch and RPM for you.
